Academic Writing: Sciences
RHET-1103
Section 001, Fall Term
MWF, 9:30 AM-10:20 AM
Room 2C13, Centennial Hall
This section of Academic Writing is intended for students who will major in one of the sciences. Readings will reflect current research questions and lines of inquiry in the sciences, and assignments will include summarizing and synthesizing texts of various kinds. We will consider the transmission of knowledge from research reports to popular science articles. Science writers are formulating urgent questions for citizens, and the sciences provide powerful ways of pursuing answers to them. Like other sections of Academic Writing, this one will develop your ability to manage your writing: planning, selecting, organizing, and interpreting information; consulting with other writers; drafting, editing, and revising. You will also practice library research methods and the APA style of documentation.
